Terri Niccum is a former journalist and special education teacher. She lives in Southern California where she continues to advocate for children with special needs. She was a finalist for the 2020 Steve Kowit Poetry Prize. Her poem, “Parenthood Cubed”, earned second place in that competition and is included in the 2020-2021 San Diego Poetry Annual. She was also a semi-finalist in The New Guard’s Knightville Poetry Contest, and her poem “Ode to …” is scheduled to appear in The New Guard Volume X. Her work is included in Dark Ink: A Poetry Anthology Inspired by Horror (Moon Tide Press) and in the anthology Making Up (Picture Show Press). Her poetry also has been featured in Nimrod International Journal; The Maine Review; 1932 Quarterly Review; Oberon Review; Golden Streetcar; and 2020 Forever/Redshift 5 (Arroyo Seco Press). Her poem, “Three Days, Three Nights” appeared in the inaugural issue of the online journal, A Moon of One’s Own.

Niccum’s first full-length volume of poetry, The Knife Thrower’s Daughter, was recently published by Moon Tide Press. She also is the author of the chapbooks Dead Letter Box (Moon Tide Press) and Looking Snow in the Eye (Finishing Line Press).

She is married to singer-songwriter Bob Niccum. The couple are members of The Others, an eclectic musical ensemble. Niccum vows to continue scribbling and squawking well into her dotage.
